This year’s Summer School on India at the University of Montreal is drawing in some of the world’s leading experts on India today. A dozen speakers are set to give their in-depth views on the emergence and importance of the new Indian giant. The seminar will run from Monday, July 5th to Saturday, July 10th, 2010, and will offer simultaneous lectures in both English and French.

The University of Victoria has forged a unique partnership with the Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) to create and deliver this program. The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is offering up to three Post-Graduate Research Fellowships valued at $35,000 for Masters graduates and at $38,000 for PhD graduates for a one-year non-renewable term. In their time at the Foundation, Post-Graduate Research Fellows undertake a guided research project, with a view to producing a policy paper of 5,000-8,000 words on a mutually-agreed upon topic related to Asia, including policy implications for Canada, or Canada-Asia relations. The University of Waterloo and the Canada India Foundation (CIF) announced recently a first-of-its-kind joint initiative for the advancement of Canada’s research capacity in studying the politics, economy and social conditions of contemporary India and bi-lateral relationship of both countries through a planned establishment of a $10-million endowment. “No group has been displaced more than our youth, whose jobless rate has spiked to a near 11-year high of 15.6 per cent. And as more young people move home, default on their debts and scuttle their career plans, the aftershocks will linger for years, economists warn. The McGill Institute for the Study of Canada (MISC) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the Eakin Visiting Fellowship in Canadian Studies for the 2010-2011 academic year. The Fellowship will be awarded to high-level scholars focusing on studies related to Canada. It will be awarded for periods of one or two academic semesters to a scholar with a Ph.D., normally on sabbatical from their own academic institution.
