APF Canada accepting applications for fellowship positions

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is offering up to three Post-Graduate Research Fellowships valued at $35,000 for Masters graduates and at $38,000 for PhD graduates for a one-year non-renewable term. In their time at the Foundation, Post-Graduate Research Fellows undertake a guided research project, with a view to producing a policy paper of 5,000-8,000 words on a mutually-agreed upon topic related to Asia, including policy implications for Canada, or Canada-Asia relations. uManitoba receives $8.4 million for health care project in India

A group of researchers from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine hopes to support the Government of Karnataka in India, in partnership with the Karnataka Health Promotion Trust, to improve maternal, neonatal and child health outcomes after the University received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. CIF and Waterloo sign multi-million-dollar endowment MOU

The University of Waterloo and the Canada India Foundation (CIF) announced recently a first-of-its-kind joint initiative for the advancement of Canada’s research capacity in studying the politics, economy and social conditions of contemporary India and bi-lateral relationship of both countries through a planned establishment of a $10-million endowment. Canadian university graduates jobless due to recession

“No group has been displaced more than our youth, whose jobless rate has spiked to a near 11-year high of 15.6 per cent. And as more young people move home, default on their debts and scuttle their career plans, the aftershocks will linger for years, economists warn. Nowhere has the youth jobless toll risen more, percentage-wise, than in British Columbia, where it rocketed 56.2 per cent to 60,000 this October from the same month last year.” Read more from the Globe and Mail
