Shastri Arts Fellow Abbas Janmohamed was invited to perform at this festival with percussionist Dr. Rod Squance – professor and Director of the University of Calgary’s World Music Ensemble. Dr. Squance described the piece they performed as “a fusion of cultures”; he played a Central American instrument called the marimba, and Abbas played the tabla, which is a common North Indian percussion. They performed a classical Indian improvisation based on Raga Durga. Comments
