Kanta Marwah Lecture Series

Commemorating 40 years of building academic and cultural linkages

The Shastri Institute will contribute funding to one of our Canadian member institutions to host a distinguished speaker for a one-time event. The lecture should examine a current topic relevant to the Indo-Canadian relationship.

Evaluation Criteria:

Evaluation will be based upon the following marking system:

  1. Budget and Planning (40 points)
    • Does the applicant demonstrate intent to supplement Shastri funds, with its own funds or funding from other sources?
    • Are the resources allocated in the budget a realistic amount given the event’s planned activities?
    • Does the applicant set realistic and measurable goals for the event?
    • Do the event plans demonstrate an ability to meet the desired goals?
    • Is the proposed timeline realistic given the event’s planned activities?
  2. Quality of the Nominee (30 points)
    • Is the speaker an expert in the field of topic?
    • Is s/he recognized by the broader academic community?
    • Does s/he have experience/knowledge relevant to the India-Canada relationship?
  3. Topic Relevance (30 points)
    • Will the lecture topic appeal to a broad audience?
    • Is it current?
    • Does it impact the India-Canada relationship?

Conditions of Tenure:

All applicants should approach their desired speaker prior to applying and be confident that the speaker is willing to participate. Once the funds have been awarded, the recipient will have two months to officially confirm their speaker and the date of the event. The event must be held within 12 months of the funding announcement. Failure to confirm either the speaker or the date within two months may result in a reversal of the award.

The total funds will be disbursed once the speaker and date have been officially confirmed for the event.

Application Deadline:

Friday October 15, 2010.
Applications must arrive at the Institute’s Canadian office by 4:30 p.m. Calgary time. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will be notified of the results by November 2010.
