Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute

Shastri Lester Pearson Memorial Lecture (CLOSED)

The Shastri Institute will contribute funding to one of our Canadian member institutions to host a world renowned expert for a one-time event. The event will focus on a contemporary topic relevant to the Indo-Canadian relationship. The event should have a wide public appeal.

Eligibility:

Any Canadian member institutions of the Shastri Institute

Application Requirements:

• A completed application form submitted electronically
• An itemized budget including potential contributions by the applicant or other souces
• Resume of the proposed speaker

Evaluation Criteria:

Evaluation will be based upon the following marking system:

1. Quality of the Nominee (35 points)
   • Is the speaker an expert in the field of topic?
   • Is s/he internationally recognized?
   • Does s/he have experience/knowledge relevant to the India-Canada relationship?
2. Topic Relevance (35 points)
   • Will the lecture topic appeal to a broad audience?
   • Is it current?
   • Does it impact the India-Canada relationship?
3. Budget and Planning (30 points)
   • Does the applicant set realistic and measurable goals for the event?
   • Do the event plans demonstrate an ability to meet the desired goals?
   • Are the resources allocated in the budget a realistic amount given the event’s planned activities?
   • Is the proposed timeline realistic given the event’s planned activities?

Conditions of Tenure:

All applicants should approach their desired speaker prior to applying and be confident that the speaker is willing to participate. Once the funds have been awarded, the recipient will have two months to officially confirm their speaker and the date of the event. The event must be held within 12 months of the funding announcement. Failure to confirm either the speaker or the date within two months may result in a reversal of the award.

Acceptable Expenses:

• Speaker: travel, accommodations, honorarium, Per Diems
• Advertising/marketing, program design/printing
• Venue, catering, audio/visual or other electronics
• Operational costs – Should not exceed 10% of Shastri funds

Disbursement of Funds:

The total funds will be disbursed once the speaker and date have been officially confirmed for the event.

Application Deadline:

Friday October 15, 2010.
Applications must be emailed to the Institute by 4:30 p.m. Calgary time. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will be notified of the results by November 2010.
